About the Building

This is the former Queen Anne High School, an English Renaissance Revival building constructed in 1909 by architect James Stephen, with additions in 1929 and 1955. It is a Seattle Landmark and a National Register property, and the exterior remains one of the most recognizable pieces of architecture on the hill.

The building was converted to residential apartments in the mid-1980s and to condominiums in 2006 by Legacy Partners. The current community holds 137 uniquely styled homes, and the historic fabric survives in tall windows, wide corridors and stairs and some original classroom and chalkboard elements. Community and association sources report a shared view deck, modernized elevators and improvements to that deck; local listing sources also report workout space, first-floor storage and on-site parking. Treat these as reported building features rather than guarantees attached to every home.

Residence Character

  • Floor plans are unusually varied because homes were carved from former classrooms and school spaces.
  • Many residences have tall ceilings and oversized original window openings.
  • Skyline, mountain and water outlooks occur depending on orientation and floor.
  • Historic elements retained inside a residence differ home to home, so verify what is present before writing an offer.

Important

No Rental Cap ≠ Short-Term Rental

A building can allow an unlimited number of owners to lease their residences while still requiring a 30-day, three-month, six-month, twelve-month, or longer minimum lease. Rental-cap percentage and minimum lease duration are separate rules and should always be reviewed independently.
